MacBook Air and Pro repair, at component level

A MacBook that won’t turn on, won’t charge or died after a spill often comes down to one faulty part on its logic board. We find it and repair it, so you keep your Mac and your files. Your quote comes first.

Quick answer

Can a MacBook logic board be repaired?

Often, yes. We find the faulty chip, connector or circuit on the logic board and repair that, instead of replacing the whole board or the Mac. That keeps your files where they are and costs less than a new board. We repair MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, Intel and Apple silicon, and quote before any work starts.

We are an Apple Independent Repair Provider, and we keep a large stock of MacBook logic boards and spare parts, so many repairs don’t wait for parts.

Why component level

We repair the part that failed, not the whole Mac.

Most faults on a MacBook’s logic board come down to one chip, connector or circuit. Replacing the whole board, or the Mac, throws away everything that still works.

  • The faulty part, not the board

We trace the fault on the logic board and repair or replace the chip, connector or circuit behind it.

  • Your files stay put

On newer MacBooks the storage is part of the logic board. Repairing the board keeps your files; a new board would not.

  • Less than a new board

A repair at component level usually costs less than a new logic board, and far less than a new Mac.

  • A second look

Told your MacBook isn’t worth repairing? We look again, and say so honestly if it isn’t.

Symptoms

What we fix, by symptom

What you see, what is usually behind it on the board, and what to do now. The diagnosis confirms it before any work starts.

  • It won’t turn on

    Usually
A failed part in the power circuits on the logic board, often a single shorted component.
    What to do now
Leave it on a charger you know works for a few minutes, then stop: repeated tries don’t help a board fault.
  • It won’t charge

    Usually
The USB-C or MagSafe port, the charging chip behind it, or the battery.
    What to do now
Try another charger and cable you know work, and tell us what the charger light does.
  • A drink spilt on it

    Usually
Liquid on the logic board, which keeps corroding it while there is power.
    What to do now
Switch it off at once, don’t charge it, and don’t wait to see whether it dries out.
  • No picture or no backlight

    Usually
The backlight circuit on the board, the screen cable or connector, or the screen itself.
    What to do now
Shine a torch at the screen: a faint picture points to the backlight, not the screen.
  • Keyboard or trackpad not responding

    Usually
Liquid under the keys, a damaged cable or connector, or the circuit on the board that reads them.
    What to do now
Plug in a USB keyboard: if that works, the rest of the Mac is fine.
  • A USB-C port that stopped working

    Usually
A worn or damaged port, or the chip on the board that controls it.
    What to do now
Try each port in turn and note which ones charge and which don’t.
  • A dead MacBook with files you need

    Usually
On newer MacBooks the storage is soldered to the logic board and locked to it, so repairing the board is often the only way back to the files.
    What to do now
Ask before anyone replaces the board: a new board can’t read the old storage.
