Quick answer

Can you fix my laptop?

In many cases, yes. We repair laptop screens, keyboards, batteries, charging ports, hinges and fans, and laptops that won’t start or have had a drink spilt on them. We come to your home or office, and your quote comes first, before any work starts.

What we fix

From the screen to the charging port.

Windows laptops and MacBooks. For Macs, see Mac and iMac repair.

  • Cracked or dead screens

Cracked, flickering, lined or black screens replaced.

  • Keyboards and trackpads

Keys that stick, are missing or stopped typing; trackpads that stopped clicking.

  • Batteries and charging

Batteries that no longer last, and laptops that won’t charge: worn or loose charging ports, DC jack or USB-C, included.

  • Hinges and cases

Stiff, loose or snapped hinges, and cracked cases.

  • Drinks spilt on it

Dried out, cleaned and tested before the damage spreads.

  • Overheating and fan noise

Dust cleared and the cooling renewed, so it runs cool and quiet.

  • Won’t turn on

No lights, or lights but no picture.

Symptoms

What it usually turns out to be

What you see, what is usually behind it, and what to do now. The diagnosis confirms it before any work starts.

  • The screen is cracked, lined or black

    Usually
A damaged screen panel; sometimes the cable to the screen, or the graphics.
    What to do now
Plug it into a TV or monitor: if the picture shows there, the rest of the laptop is fine.
  • It won’t charge

    Usually
A worn charging port (the DC jack or the USB-C port), a failed charger or cable, or a battery at the end of its life.
    What to do now
Try another socket and check the light on the charger. Don’t force a loose plug.
  • The battery dies within the hour

    Usually
A worn-out battery; less often, a program keeping the laptop busy.
    What to do now
Note the make and model (on the sticker underneath) so we can bring the right battery.
  • Keys don’t work or keep sticking

    Usually
Dirt or a spill under the keys, or a keyboard fault.
    What to do now
Don’t prise the keys off. A photo on WhatsApp helps us bring the right part.
  • The hinge is stiff or the lid wobbles

    Usually
A loose or broken hinge mount inside the case.
    What to do now
Open and close it gently, from the middle of the lid: a stiff hinge can crack the screen.
  • It runs hot and the fan is loud

    Usually
Dust in the fan and vents, or dried-out thermal paste.
    What to do now
Use it on a desk, not on a bed or a cushion, until it is cleaned.

Questions

What people ask us.

Something else? Send a message on WhatsApp and we’ll answer.

Do you come to me, or do I bring the laptop in?
Either. We come to homes and offices across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, London, Birmingham and Leicester and the towns around them. If you’d rather bring it to us, call first: our workshop takes drop-offs by arrangement.
How quickly can you come?
We usually come to you within 24 hours, unless we are really busy. Many small repairs and upgrades are done and back with you within 24 hours.
Can you replace a cracked laptop screen?
Yes. Tell us the make and model (on the sticker underneath) or send a photo on WhatsApp, and we quote for the screen before any work starts.
My laptop won’t charge. Is it the battery or the charger?
It can be the charger, the battery or the charging port, which wears with use. We test each one and tell you which has failed before we quote.
Can you repair a loose or broken laptop charging port?
Yes. A charging port that wobbles, only charges at an angle or has stopped working, whether a DC jack or a USB-C port, is one of the laptop repairs we do. We test the charger and battery first, so you know which part has failed before we quote.
Will I lose my files?
A screen, keyboard or battery repair doesn’t touch your files. If the drive itself is failing, we say so first and get your files off before anything else.
Do you repair MacBooks too?
Yes. Our Mac and iMac repair page covers MacBooks and iMacs.
What will it cost?
Every repair is quoted on its own, before any work starts. No fix, no fee: if we can’t fix it, you pay nothing. Warranty: 1 to 12 months, confirmed with your quote, before any work starts.

Laptop broken? Send us a photo of the fault.

A photo on WhatsApp often shows us which part it needs. Your quote comes first.
